How Life360 Helped Kim Get Help for Her Daughter

Our users at Life360 often share stories of how they’re using the app – whether it’s about how they are staying connected with their families or have ease-of-mind from monitoring new teenage drivers. The stories of gratitude we receive on a daily basis keeps us working hard to constantly improve our app. We recently connected with one of our users, Kim, who offered to share her own story about how Life360 helped get her daughter help on the road.

It was a typical Wednesday morning for Kim and her family. Kim and her husband were already at work and Kim’s daughter was preparing to leave the house to drive her brother and herself to school. At 7:25am Kim received a push notification that her daughter had left the house for school, so per routine, Kim opened the app, tapped her son’s avatar and saw that they were moving.

“I love hearing the ping when they arrive or leave a destination,” said Kim. “It helps me know everyone’s day is running smoothly and I can check-in if I notice anything is off.”

It had rained the night before and Kim was nervous having her new teen driver commuting in the wet winding road to the high school. It was now 7:45am and Kim noticed she didn’t receive a second push notification showing that her kids arrived at school. She opened the Life360 app again and saw her kids were no longer moving and had been in the same spot for 24 minutes.

“I tried to call my daughter to see if everything was alright, but she had bad reception so I couldn’t get through,” said Kim. “That’s when I saw the ‘crash detected’ icon pop up in the app and I just knew.”

Kim called her husband who was a police officer in Gilroy and had him keep an ear out for any possible accidents on the route to the high school. A few minutes later, he identified that there was a serious accident on the same road that Life360 was showing their daughter was stopped on.

“My daughter hit a large pothole and overcorrected, which put her car into the other lane where she was hit by an oncoming truck. The car was totaled, but thankfully she wasn’t badly injured. I was able to keep a calm, clear head through the entire ordeal because Life360 notified me of the accident in the beginning.”

Originally hesitant to put Life360 on her phone, Kim’s daughter now understands the use and importance of it – especially for those unpredictable times where you need help, but are unable to call for it yourself.

Now the family unanimously agrees that: “Life360 will be with us for a long time.”

Thank you to Kim and her entire family for letting us share your story. We’re so thankful everyone walked away without a scratch and that we could be there for you.
