How Shondra Used Life360 to Locate Her Son During an Accident

Our users at Life360 often share stories of how they’re using the app – whether it’s about how they are staying connected with their families or have peace of mind from monitoring new teenage drivers. The stories of gratitude we receive on a daily basis keeps us working hard to constantly improve our app. We recently connected with one of our users, Shondra J., who shared her story of how Life360 helped locate her son after an accident. Below is her story.

Six years ago, Jerrod approached his mom and dad to download Life360. He was using it with a group of friends and noticed a few of them had their families on it as well.

“I think it’s a really good idea for the whole family to download Life360. We can stay connected and easily see where we all are,” said Jerrod.

Now years later – they are all thankful that they did. One evening, Jerrod set off after dinner to visit his aunt who lived in a town 5 hours away. He left around 8pm, and said bye to his mom who was doing homework for a college course she was taking. Shondra had a lot of work to do, so she knew she’d still be up by the time he would arrive to her sisters house.

When Shondra was wrapping up her homework for the night around 1:30am, she realized Jerrod had not checked in to say he arrived safely and he should have arrived to her sister’s house by now.

“I called him to check-in, but he didn’t pick up, so I looked on Life360 to see where he was. He was still on the highway, but was on the wrong side, so I tried calling him one more time,” Shondra explained.

Jerrod was traveling North, but his location shows him in the Southbound lane.

This time Jerrod picked up. He had fallen asleep at the wheel heading northbound and woke up when he hit the rumble strips. He tried to overcorrect himself too hard and the car rolled over, crossed the 150ft dirt median, and miraculously landed on it’s tires in the southbound shoulder facing the opposite direction.

“He was completely shaken, but he answered the second time I called. He told me what happened and then we immediately found his location on Life360 to give to my sister,” said Shondra.

Thankfully Shondra’s sister was only a few miles away at this point and she drove down to pick up Jerrod. The car was totaled, but amazingly he had only a few scrapes on his hands. A good samaritan had seen the incident and called emergency services, who cleared Jerrod to go with Shondra’s sister.

We are  incredibly thankful that Shondra and her family are safe and that Life360 could be there for you in your time of need. Thank you for letting us share your story!
